Rutgers Scarlet Service Internships
Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway sees civic engagement as a critical component of a Rutgers education and a path toward appreciating our differences, restoring civil discourse, and working in service to the common good. At his November 2021 inauguration, President Holloway announced his vision for Scarlet Service. The first program under this umbrella is the Rutgers Scarlet Service initiative which provides paid summer internship experiences to Rutgers undergraduates at public service-oriented non-profit organizations and government offices. The first 100 Rutgers Scarlet Service Internship students served in 2022. Within six months of President Holloway’s announcement of the program, donors contributed a collective $1.5 million to support it.
The Scarlet Promise Initiative helps ensure student success before, during, and after Rutgers. Answering President Jonathan Holloway’s $50 million challenge to support the program, 9,744 alumni and friends gave $23.4 million to 1,300+ Scarlet Promise Initiative programs in the last year alone.
