Program Spotlight: Electrical and Computer Engineering
Electrical engineers are in the forefront of technology that continually transforms our rapidly changing world. From developing advanced navigation systems and self-piloted vehicles to designing “smart” homes and cyber security systems, electrical and computer engineers have a profound impact on how we live and how society will continue to progress for generations to come.
With 38 faculty, 840 undergraduates, and more than 240 graduate students, the Electrical and Computer Engineering department provides students access to up-to-the-minute coursework, world-class labs, internships, and research opportunities in fields ranging from cloud computing, robotics, and digital signal processing to virtual reality and nanotechnology.
Discover: Engineering Students Project Studio
The Bruce and Phyllis Engineering Students Project Studio is a dedicated space for students to conceptualize and build scale-size projects. Students have opportunities for hands-on learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, project and equipment management, and preparation for intercollegiate competitions – including Rutgers Formula Racing, Rutgers Solar Car Team, as well as other student organizations with design and build objectives.
Program Spotlight: Mechanical Engineering
For over a century, the Mechanical Engineering department has fueled innovation and growth in a wide range of industries, including automotive, aerospace, robotics, energy generation, advanced manufacturing, naval, materials development, nanostructures, fluid interactions, and many more.
Today, with more than 30 full-time faculty members, the department educates more than 700 undergraduate and 180 graduate students. A unique blend of mathematical, scientific, and technical knowledge, coupled with opportunities for research, prepares students for professional success in industry, government, and academia.
Student Perspective
Civil and environmental engineering major Genevieve Ehasz has been involved in everything from co-authoring a paper on a wastewater-based epidemiology for COVID research project to serving as an assistant teacher in a third grade classroom in Cuzco, Peru during a study abroad trip. After graduating, she looks forward to staying at Rutgers to earn her master’s degree in environmental engineering through the 4+1 program.
