The Tales of Two Cities
Two people at Rutgers University–Newark with a penchant for history recently took on new roles. Angela Lawrence, the inaugural archivist for the Dana Archives at John Cotton Dana Library, is collecting historical material that documents the university’s history and its place as an anchor institution in the city. She will also be responsible for planning public programming to share this rich history and create partnerships with Newark historical and cultural organizations.
Robert Snyder LC’77, concluding his career as a professor of American studies and journalism, will be busy as the new Manhattan Borough historian. The author of several histories of New York City, Snyder has been augmenting his research to address the COVID-19 crisis. He has been organizing online meetings with historians who are addressing how to explain and document the pandemic; working with curators at the Museum of the City of New York who had presented an exhibit on germs; and conducting his own public lectures virtually.
