Dear Rutgers Alumni
In November, our community celebrated the long-awaited inauguration of President Jonathan Holloway. Although the official installment of a new leader is a milestone by any measure, this ceremony signified much more than administrative change. It amplified a profound and compelling message from our new president—a message that Rutgers can, and will, show the world what excellence looks like.
That excellence is visible everywhere you turn in the university community, and it is unmistakable in the qualities of Rutgers alumni leaders. Anyone who has met Debra A. Holston O’Neal LC’87, the new chair of the Rutgers University Alumni Association, will see it right away. As a social worker, and more prominently as a trainer of social workers, Debra serves on the forefront of community challenges and positive change. She offers an example of excellence in action.
Now she joins a long line of capable alumni leaders and inspirers as we continue advancing the excellence of our beloved community. It’s an exciting time to be doing this. Everywhere you turn, Rutgers alumni are shaping our world through innovative careers, entrepreneurship, and activism.
You’ll meet a dozen young alumni who are doing just that. We’re pleased and honored to share their accomplishments with you, although it was difficult to choose only 12, because Rutgers has helped empower abundant leaders like these across every field and discipline. Of course, Rutgers graduates of all ages achieve great things. We focused on those under 40 because their journeys are just beginning to take shape.
So read about them for a dose of inspiration. And down the road, I’m sure we’ll hear more from these amazing members of our community.
Scarlet Forever,
Josh Harraman
