Rutgers head women's basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer was honored with a Joint Resolution by the New Jersey General Assembly on Monday, Feb. 24 during the voting session's annual Black History Month celebration.

During the voting session, Assemblyman Benjie E. Wimberly presented Coach Stringer with a framed copy of the Resolution to honor her legacy in coaching, teaching and mentorship.

"In her years of coaching, it's not about the wins," said Assemblyman Wimberly. "It's about the people she has developed and impacted. She is not just being honored for Black History Month, but for American History."

In 49 years of collegiate coaching, Stringer has amassed 1,038 victories and counting to rank fourth all-time in NCAA Division I women's basketball coaching wins. She has been the primary architect in transforming three programs into national title contenders since her appearance in the first-ever NCAA National Championship game. She has guided teams to 27 of the 38 NCAA Tournaments, including 10-straight from 2003 to 2012.

The first coach in men's or women's basketball history to take three different schools to the Final Four (Cheyney in 1982, Iowa in 1993 and Rutgers, in 2000 and again in 2007), Stringer has been a pioneer, visionary and leader during her four decades of success on the hardwood.

"It's not about me, it's about the generations that will come after me," Coach Stringer said on the floor of the General Assembly. "It's not about you as legislatures, it's about the young people who will come after you. I will continue to remember where I came from, who I am, and teaching those values to the youth of our community."

In April, Coach Stringer will receive the John R. Wooden Award®'s "Legends of Coaching™" honor in Los Angeles. The "Legends of Coaching" honor recognizes coaches who exemplify Coach Wooden's high standard of coaching success and personal integrity.
