Former Succasunna Resident, Now Georgia District Attorney to Speak at Douglass College Convocation on May 21
Gwen Keyes Fleming is an alumna of Douglass College and Emory Law School
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Gwen Keyes Fleming, formerly of Succasunna, will be the convocation speaker at her alma mater, Douglass College, Thursday, May 21, at 10 a.m.Fleming is the district attorney for the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit in Georgia. She made history in 2004 when she became the first African American and first female elected to this post.
The ceremony will take place on Antilles Field on the Douglass Campus in New Brunswick. This year, 571 female students will receive their diplomas from Douglass College. The school was established in 1918 as the New Jersey College for Women.
Fleming earned a bachelor of science degree in finance from Douglass College in 1990 and a law degree from Emory University School of Law. She has received numerous honors and recognitions and is active in several community and civic organizations.
On her official website, Fleming credits her parents, the late Andrew and Ursula Keyes, as the driving force behind her commitment to community service and to assisting people who cannot help themselves. She and her husband Randal Fleming have two children.
