Board of Governors Approves Harold H. Martin Professor of Mathematics Endowed Chair

The Rutgers University Board of Governors has appointed Matthew Young – an internationally recognized scholar widely regarded as one of the top analytic number theorists of his generation – as the Harold H. Martin Professor of Mathematics Endowed Chair, commencing July 1, 2024.
Young’s research interests include analytic number theory, automorphic forms, L-functions and elliptic curves. He has an extensive publication background and strong record of continuous funding from the National Science Foundation, which has totaled approximately $1 million since 2008.
Recipient of the International Congress on Basic Science Frontiers of Science Award in 2024, Young has been invited to present his work at prestigious major conferences, with the Séminaire Nicolas
Bourbaki featuring a highlighted account of his work.
Young joined the Rutgers-New Brunswick School of Arts and Sciences as Professor of Mathematics this past academic year after serving as Professor and Director of the Mathematics Honors Program and Undergraduate Research at Texas A&M University. He spent 17 years in College Station, beginning as an assistant professor in 2007, after working with the American Institute of Mathematics and at Stanford University.
Young earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from Rutgers in 2004, with Henryk Iwaniec serving as his advisor, after receiving his Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Minnesota in 1999
