Year-to-date donations to RAH approach $100,000

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH) and the six Rutgers University Bookstores operated by Barnes and Noble College Booksellers are partnering on a two-week donation drive to raise money for New Jersey food banks, emergency food pantries and other organizations that help feed the hungry across the state.

From Sunday, Aug. 30, through Sunday, Sept. 13, customers will be asked at checkout if they would like to make a $1 donation to RAH. Payments will be accepted in any form being used at checkout: cash, check, debit, credit or RU Express.

“It’s a great opportunity for the bookstores to give back to the community,” said John Cusick, general manager of the bookstores. “We came on board last November to operate the bookstores and we want to show that we’re part of the community, not just a place to buy books. This is just a first step in our relationship with Rutgers Against Hunger.”

RAH was established by Rutgers President Richard L. McCormick in November 2008 to engage the university community in addressing the growing problem of hunger and food insecurity in New Jersey. In addition to food drives and fundraising, the initiative encourages civic engagement, and encompasses educational and research activities that seek solutions to hunger and related issues. To date, the initiative has resulted in donations Rutgers bookstores and convenience stores operated by Barnes and Noble College Booksellers are located on Albany Street in New Brunswick, as well as on the New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses.
