Rutgers Day Programming Changes

WHAT: Organizations planning programs to honor King or interested in partnering with Rutgers are encouraged to contact the universitys Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

WHO: The Task Force on the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. has been established to promote initiatives that commemorate the work of King and his peers in the black freedom movement.

WHEN: Organizations should alert the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs by Dec. 17.

BACKGROUND: The Task Force on the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. is comprised of Rutgers faculty, students and administrators on the New Brunswick Campus. Martin Luther King Jr., a Baptist minister who was instrumental in the American civil rights movement, delivered his acclaimed I Have a Dream speech during the March on Washington in 1963. The following year King received the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent strategies to end segregation the youngest person at the time to receive the honor.

April 4, 2008, is the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.s assassination.
