Rutgers–Camden to Host Pixar Animator for Behind-the-Scenes Look at Latest Film
Kevin O’Hara, an animator for Pixar Animation Studios, will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the studio’s new animated film, The Good Dinosaur, in a free public talk on the Rutgers University–Camden campus at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15.
The presentation, hosted by the Department of Fine Arts and the Digital Studies Center at Rutgers–Camden, will be held in in the Walter K. Gordon Theater, located in the Fine Arts Complex, at 314 Linden Street on the Rutgers–Camden campus.
Since joining Pixar as an animator in Sept. 2006, O’Hara has worked on a number of the studio’s feature films, including Monsters University, and the Academy Award®-winning Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, and Brave. He also contributed his talents to two of Pixar’s short films, Your Friend the Rat, and Dug’s Special Mission. O’Hara is currently working on The Good Dinosaur, scheduled for release on Nov. 25.
As an animator, O’Hara gives the characters in a film personality and movement. From an early age, he was inspired to draw by Mort Drucker and Jack Davis, two artists from MAD Magazine. After seeing a re-release of Disney’s The Jungle Book, O’Hara found himself drawn to animation. He was taught and mentored by Milt Neil, a Disney animator who was known for his work on Donald Duck and in the film Dumbo.
O’Hara landed his first job as an animator at Don Bluth Studios. From there, he went on to work at a number of studios, including Warner Bros., Ralph Bakshi, Turner Animation, James Baxter Animation, Dreamworks, and Sony.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., O’Hara grew up in Hackettstown. After graduating from the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in Dover, he worked in the hand-drawn animation field for close to 20 years before coming to Pixar. He currently resides in Marin, Calif.
