CAMDEN -- Students at Rutgers-Camden enjoy strong prospects for success in careers and graduate programs upon graduation.
According to the Career Center at Rutgers-Camden, graduates of the Class of 2007 are faring well as they launch their careers. James Marino, assistant dean of the Rutgers-Camden Career Center, reports that better than 80% of Rutgers-Camden students who graduated in 2007 secured new positions within six months of graduation. Nearly 100% of the Class of 2007 is employed or enrolled in graduate school.
Graduates from Rutgers-Camden secure excellent jobs and put their talents to work for employers within the Delaware Valley, with 40% working in Philadelphia and 50% finding jobs in southern New Jersey. Employers include Lockheed Martin, KPMG, Virtua Health, the Department of the Navy, the New Jersey Office of Legislative Services, Bristol Myers Squibb, and many others. With the average salary calculated at $39,950, salaries for the 2007 class are running 3% higher than the class of 2006 and are competitive within the Delaware Valley region and comparable to the national salaries reported by the National Association of Colleges and employers, says Marino.
Rutgers-Camden graduates also are pursuing graduate and professional degrees at the University of Pennsylvania, UMDNJ, Temple, Eastern Michigan University, Villanova, Rutgers, and other institutions. They are enrolled in medical and health-related programs at such schools as the University of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson University, and the University of New England College of Medicine.
Since 1997, Rutgers-Camden graduate students applying for the highly coveted Presidential Management Fellows Program have enjoyed an average success rate of better than 50% in terms of earning acceptance into this competitive national program. The national average acceptance rate for schools with students applying to this program is 20%.
Rutgers-Camden students post strong performances on professional examinations. Recent nursing graduates passed their professional examination, the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX), at a 92% passage rate in 2007. Rutgers-Camden nursing students passed this critical professional exam at a rate that exceeds the New Jersey (87%) and national (86%) averages. This accomplishment is not unusual for the Rutgers-Camden nursing program, which regularly enjoys passage rates approaching (and hitting) 100%.
Students enrolled in the Rutgers-Camden Teacher Preparation Program who took the Praxis II professional examination passed at a rate of 97.4% and earned their teaching certifications. At the Rutgers School of LawCamden, graduates who took the New Jersey Bar Examination in July 2006 passed at a rate of 81%. The Rutgers-Camden law school also reports that 75% of the Class of 2006 - which offers the most recent data - had secured employment prior to graduating, thanks to aggressive employer recruiting of Rutgers-Camden law students.
Rutgers-Camden students engage in a wide variety of internships, clinical assignments, and experiential learning opportunities that allow them to apply their classroom learning to real-world situations. The Rutgers-Camden Career Center connects students with regional and national employers through a continuous series of on-campus recruitment fairs, one-on-one interview sessions, long-distance interviewing, and other opportunities.
