NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is expanding its business-related education programming in Jersey City with two new executive education programs and two new graduate-level classes. Beginning in early 2007, the addition of Rutgers mini-MBA certificate programs and two new courses leading to a masters degree in human resource management will enhance the universitys education opportunities for the business community, at convenient times and locations in the northern New Jersey and New York metropolitan areas.
Rutgers Center for Management Development (CMD) will offer its Mini-MBA: Business Essentials certificate program on Mondays for 12 weeks beginning Feb. 26. The five-week, 10-session Mini-MBA: Finance Essentials program also will begin on Feb. 26. Both programs will meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Newport Centre complex at 100 Pavonia Ave., Jersey City.
The Business Essentials certificate program provides managers with a solid foundation in current theory and practice by offering an overview of key concepts, tools and techniques needed in contemporary organizations. Delivered in 12 three-hour modules, the program covers such topics as business strategy, corporate finance, supply chain management, business ethics and strategic human resources.
The Mini-MBA: Finance Essentials certificate program focuses on real-world applications of conceptual knowledge in finance. Topics include analysis of financial statements, understanding financial markets and instruments, security valuation and portfolio theory, capital budgeting and financial strategy.
Hudson County and Jersey City, in particular, represent one of the states vital and fast-growing business hubs, said CMD Director Abe Weiss. By being more accessible to the business community, we are making it easier for employees to acquire new knowledge and skills that enhance their effectiveness and value to their organizations.
Founded in 1947, the Rutgers CMD offers a range of training programs in business, human resources, leadership and management. Participants can earn credits and certifications, including graduate credit from the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR) and the Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick.
CMD programs are offered regularly on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus as well as off-campus sites. For more information about the mini-MBA and other management and leadership programs, call 732-445-5526 or send e-mail to minimba@cmd.rutgers.edu
In addition to CMDs certificate programs, SMLR is adding two new credit-bearing courses to its masters in human resource management program, also offered in Newport Centre. Beginning Jan. 16, SMLR will offer Developing Human Capital and Accessing Data for Decisions, core courses leading to a masters. The Jersey City program began last fall.
Advanced education in human resource management is becoming a necessity in the modern business world, according to David Ferio, human resources graduate director.
The arena of human resources management is changing such that its leaders must also be strategic business leaders in their organizations, Ferio said. The elevation of human resources role requires a new and stronger set of skills.
As a result, many corporations in the Jersey City and New York metropolitan areas support continuing education for their HR managers. For information on the masters in human resource management program, call (732) 445-0862 or e-mail ferio@smlr.rutgers.edu
In addition to the new CMD and SMLR programs, Rutgers has, since 2004, offered off-campus business education in Jersey City, which includes courses or coursework toward a part-time MBA degree through Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick. Classes meet at the Harborside Financial Center in Jersey City, For information on Rutgers MBA programs, call 973-353-1234.
