Rutgers Day Programming Changes

WHAT: “Threat Assessment and Prevention of Targeted Violence and K-12 Schools,” a free conference intended primarily for educators and law enforcement officers featuring presentations by the U.S. Secret Service hosted by the Institute for Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security at Rutgers in conjunction with the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. The purpose of the conference is to apply insights from homeland security initiatives to protect K-12 students from violence.

Discussants will cover such topics as:

  • Threat assessment and violence prevention plans in K-12 schools
  • Identifying and assessing students who might pose a risk of violence
  • Effective intervention strategies
  • Best practices in developing threat assessment plans
  • Case studies

WHO: Speakers from the U.S. Secret Service include Carl Agnelli, acting special agent in charge, Newark Field Office; and from the National Threat Assessment Center, Protective Intelligence and Assessment Division, Lina Althari, supervisory research psychologist; Catherine Camilletti and Amanda Snook, social science research specialists.

  • Speakers also include Richard L. Edwards, Rutgers executive vice president for academic affairs and chancellor, Rutgers University-New Brunswick; Clifton R. Lacy, director, Rutgers Institute for Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security; and Christopher Rodriguez, director, New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
