Rutgers University-Newark and Mayor Ras J. Baraka Announce Partnership with Launch of 'My Newark' Mobile App

Application now available from iTunes and Google Play for Apple and Android; enables users to keep alerts on non-emergency issues, current news and links

NEWARK, NJ - Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Rutgers University-Newark's School of Public Affairs and Administration today announced their partnership to develop and maintain official citizen-facing mobile applications.

The new jointly-developed mobile application, called "My Newark" includes the reporting of non-emergency issues, current news and links. It is now available from iTunes and Google Play for Apple and Android devices, respectively.

"This groundbreaking partnership between Newark and Rutgers University will enable our residents to get up-to-the-minute information about our City that affects their lives," said Mayor Baraka. "This application will empower Newark residents, manifest our city's role as a cutting-edge leader, and put the work we are doing to transform Newark into a City we can all believe in at our residents' fingertips. I commend our team and Rutgers on this partnership.”

"The work we are doing with the City of Newark on this app is a collaborative, reciprocal partnership that sharply reflects the role of Rutgers University-Newark as an anchor institution in the city," said Rutgers University-Newark Chancellor Nancy Cantor. "SPAA and the city are pooling their expertise and learning from one another, which greatly increases the impact of their work both individually and collectively. We look forward to many more such collaborations."

In partnership with the City, the School of Public Affairs and Administration is already working on a 2.0 version release of the app, which will be made available in early 2015 and which will incorporate more information services, tourism, transportation, and cultural entertainment content. The partnership will last for four years.
