Rutgers Day Programming Changes

NEWARK, NJ – The Hon. Garrett Edward Brown, Jr., Chief Judge, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, will deliver the 29th Annual Chief Justice Joseph Weintraub Lecture on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Rutgers School of Law–Newark. Judge Brown will present “Methods of Dispute Resolution.” The lecture, sponsored by the law school and its Alumni Association, will begin at 6 pm.

Judge Brown was appointed to the federal bench by President Ronald Reagan and was sworn in on January 31, 1986. Chief Judge since 2005, he has announced that he will step down from that position in January 2012.

A graduate of Lafayette College and Duke University School of Law, Judge Brown began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Vincent S. Haneman of the New Jersey Supreme Court. He was with the U.S. Attorney’s office, District of New Jersey, from 1969 until 1973, then practiced with Stryker, Tams and Dill LLP. From 1983-1985 he served as general counsel for the U.S. Government Printing Office. Judge Brown was appointed chief counsel for the U.S. Maritime Administration in 1983 and in 1985 was named Acting Maritime Administrator.
