U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel Visits Rutgers; Potential presidential candidate to address war, diplomacy, state of the Middle East
WHO: U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.), a senior senator serving his second term, is a member of four Senate committees: Foreign Relations; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; Intelligence; and Rules and Administration.
Sen. Hagel has gained widespread attention due to his disapproval of the federal administration's position on the war in Iraq as well as publicly challenging the president to incorporate greater safeguards to protect citizens' civil liberties under the Patriot Act. The legislation was created to give law enforcement expanded power to fight terrorism.
WHAT: A lecture, 21st Century Challenges, hosted by the Center for Middle Eastern Studies. The event is free and open to the public.
WHEN: Friday, March 2, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Registrations will be accepted as space permits. Identification will be checked beginning at 2:30 p.m. Doors close at 3:30 p.m. sharp; no one will be permitted inside after the event begins.
Rutgers Center for Middle Eastern Studies is hosting the senators visit to the university. Hooshang Amirahmadi, director of the center and 2005 Iranian presidential candidate, is available for comment. He also is the founder and president of the American-Iranian Council, a research and policy think tank devoted to improving relations between the peoples of Iran and the United States.
